Academic Achievement

The Ingham County Youth Center receives federal funding for youth who are at risk. Title I, Part D, Neglected or Delinquent (N or D) is a federal program. The program’s purpose is to provide supplementary educational services to improve academic achievement specifically in mathematics, reading, and language arts. These children or youth must be given the opportunity to meet the same challenging state content standards expected of all other children in the state. In addition, N or D is designed to provide neglected and delinquent children and youth the services needed to make successful transitions from institutionalization to a regular program of education, higher education, vocational training, or employment.

Ingham County Youth Center uses “Best Practice” to engage students and capture their interest. An interactive whiteboard is used to accommodate multiple learning styles including tactile, audio, and visual. Interactive whiteboards benefit all students, but especially those with learning disabilities.

Highly Qualified Staff

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires that all teachers of core academic subjects be highly qualified. Core academic subjects include English, reading, language arts, mathematics, science, foreign languages, civics and government, economics, arts, history, and geography (NCLB Section 9101).
